Q: What is a fixed bollard barrier?
A: Bollards that don’t need to be removed are called fixed bollard barriers. These bollard barriers are surface mounted to the roadway. More substantial fixed bollard barriers are cemented into the ground, often with a rebar cage, providing additional strength in the event of a vehicle ramming incident or motorist accident. Many retailers across the country such as Walmart and Home Depot use fixed bollard barriers in parking lots, building entrances and other high traffic areas, to protect customers and maintain security at building entrances and loading docks. Fixed bollard barriers are typically made of steel and carry varying levels of crash ratings, with some being used solely for architectural look or roadway deterrents.
K12 Defense manufactures a bollard system array that is fixed in the ground and can be moved into the up or down position in under a minute. The Minuteman 2-bollard array is a unique, patented, vehicular barrier system that is precisely counterbalanced and fully deployable in less than a minute with the push of a finger. Each bollard weighs over 350 lbs and can be moved into the up or down position in seconds without the assistance of forklifts or machinery. Bollards are positioned 4 feet apart (on center) and 34.5” above grade (with sleeve). This flush, in-ground, rebar reinforced barrier system, is hot dipped galvanized and 100% manually deployable – No tripping hazards, no holes to cover, no power or controls required. Includes pre-fabricated and threaded rebar kit for use at time of installation. Optional sump pump and decorate sleeves available upon request. With a robust locking mechanism, bollards are always secure in the up or down position. Sealed bearings and effective drainage, assure minimal maintenance.
